What to Expect After Injectable Treatments
If it’s your first time getting Botox, filler, or other injectables, we’ve got you covered. Most treatments have minimal downtime, but a little post-injection care goes a long way to ensure the best results.
You may experience swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection site, and mild bruising is common. These symptoms typically resolve within a few days.
We’ve outlined detailed Botox aftercare and filler aftercare instructions below to help you minimize side effects and maximize your results. Whether you’re prepping for your first lip filler or a full facial balancing session, our aftercare guide will walk you through everything you need to know.
BOTOX / DYSPORT SCOTTSDALE
PRE-TREATMENT CARE:
- Avoid blood thinners (Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, etc.) for 2 weeks prior (with provider approval)
- Avoid alcohol/caffeine for 3 days
- Stay hydrated, don’t arrive on an empty stomach
POST-TREATMENT CARE:
- No makeup or lying flat for 4 hours
- No workouts or heat exposure for 24 hours
- Use Tylenol (if needed), not blood thinners
- Ice if needed
Full results in 2 weeks
Common Side Effects:
- Mild swelling/redness
- Short-term headaches or heaviness
- Bruising
- Tenderness

DERMAL FILLERS SCOTTSDALE (Cheek, Chin, Temple, Undereye, Lip, Jawline, Facial Balancing)
PRE-TREATMENT CARE:
- Avoid blood thinners (2 weeks prior)
- Avoid alcohol/caffeine (3 days before)
- Avoid dental work 2 weeks before/after
- Arnica 2–3 days prior to reduce bruising
- Come early if numbing is desired
POST-TREATMENT CARE:
- No makeup (8 hours), no workouts (24 hours)
- No alcohol (48 hours)
- Sleep elevated on your back
- Apply ice and take Arnica
- Optional: Claritin for swelling
- Watch for any discoloration
Common Side Effects:
- Swelling, redness, bruising
- Tenderness or pressure
- Mild headaches

- Bruising
It’s normal for residual swelling to last around 2-4 weeks. The major swelling usually peaks after a couple of days.

Microneedling
PRE-TREATMENT CARE:
- If approved by your healthcare provider, avoid taking any blood thinning medications such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Excedrin, Aleve, etc. for a minimum of two weeks before your treatment.
- Avoid exfoliating, alcohol, self-tanner, and retinol for 3 days
- Hydrate well
- Cannot treat if pregnant
- Avoid any at-home exfoliating for at least 3 days before your treatment. This includes things like dermaplaning, shaving, chemical peels, masks, and retinols.
- Do not apply any self-tanner to the treatment area.
- Injections can be performed after any microneedling treatment. You must wait 2 weeks after you have been injected to receive any Microneedling treatment.
POST-TREATMENT CARE:
- Avoid makeup/sunscreen for 48 hrs
- Avoid workouts for 24 hrs
- Use Alastin Skin Nectar
- Expect redness, sunburn-like sensitivity
Common Side Effects:
- Tightness, dryness, peeling
- Redness for up to 72 hrs
